A flood warning has been issued for low-lying and flood-prone regions near the Nakauvadra River in Rakiraki Town, the Naseyani area along the Yaqara River, and at Nasivi and the Tavua Town Bridge in Tavua. In addition, a flood alert has been declared for the flood plains surrounding the Ba River.

The Fiji Meteorological Service has reported that Tropical Cyclone URMIL, categorized as a Category 2 system, is currently located west-southwest of Kadavu and is moving southeast. The cyclone brings with it active rainbands and strong northwesterly winds that are affecting much of the Fiji group.

Weather officials caution that these conditions greatly increase the risk of river flooding, particularly in catchments that are already saturated from persistent heavy rainfall. The issue is compounded by the anticipated high tides: Lautoka is expected to experience a high tide of 2.23 meters at 4:43 PM, while Suva will see its peak at 5:56 PM.

Authorities stress that the combination of heavy rain, rising river levels, and heightened tides poses a significant threat of flooding in the affected areas. Continuous monitoring of river levels and rainfall forecasts shows that water levels in Rakiraki, Tavua, and Ba are consistently rising above alert and warning thresholds.

Residents in the impacted communities are strongly advised to remain vigilant, avoid traversing river crossings and flooded roads, and adhere to all official weather warnings and advisories as the situation develops. As the community braces for the approaching severe weather, collaboration and heightened awareness will be crucial to ensuring safety during this testing time.
