Rain, ice, and strong winds are expected to impact upstate New York this week, creating hazardous conditions across several regions. Residents and travelers in Eastern New York, including the Capital and Hudson Valley areas, should be prepared for freezing rain and icy conditions as the week begins.

In Central and Western New York, heavy rainfall is anticipated, accompanied by high winds that may reach gusts of up to 70 mph. Utility companies are taking proactive measures to minimize disruptions, with National Grid announcing an increase in staffing and extending work shifts to address potential power outages. The areas most likely to be affected by severe weather include the shorelines of Lakes Erie and Ontario, the Genesee Valley, and regions such as Central New York, Tug Hill, Mohawk Valley, Capital, and the Adirondacks.

To support these efforts, New York State Electric & Gas and Rochester Gas and Electric have deployed 170 contract line crews throughout the state to bolster internal teams in response to any surge in demand. This includes 80 crews in the Lancaster division, covering Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, and Erie counties, alongside 50 crews in the Rochester area. Officials have assured the public that crews will remain dedicated to restoring power until all customers are reconnected.

In light of the impending weather, residents are encouraged to prepare themselves by ensuring they have supplies on hand and are informed about safety measures. By staying informed and proactive, communities can navigate these challenging weather conditions more effectively, minimizing disruptions and ensuring safety for all.
