In the finale of Sony’s State of Play presentation, Sucker Punch revealed the first look at the new installment in its acclaimed Ghosts series, titled Ghost of Yotei. The game features a new female protagonist named Atsu, who utilizes both a shamisen and the traditional samurai sword. The trailer indicates that Atsu will journey through the wilderness surrounding Mount Yotei, accompanied by an enigmatic wolf companion.
Sucker Punch Studios, known for its work on the Sly Cooper and Infamous franchises, previously launched Ghost of Tsushima in 2020. This title received acclaim for its serene, thoughtful moments as well as its fast-paced, Kurosawa-style samurai combat. Earlier this year, the studio also released a PC version of Tsushima and announced that a film adaptation is in development, directed by Chad Stahelski of John Wick fame.
In a blog post introducing Ghost of Yotei, Sony revealed that this is the first game from Sucker Punch specifically designed for the PS5. The developers assure that it will maintain the stunning observational moments characteristic of its predecessor while incorporating new features.
Andrew Goldfarb, communications manager at Sucker Punch, emphasized the game’s advancements, stating, “We have massive sightlines that let you look far across the environment, whole new skies featuring twinkling stars and auroras, even more believable movement from wind on grass and vegetation.” He also mentioned that the new setting allows for the introduction of new mechanics, gameplay enhancements, and additional weaponry.
