Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson are set to push boundaries in their upcoming erotic thriller “Babygirl.”
Directed by Halina Reijn, the film features Kidman as the CEO of a tech company who embarks on a daring affair with a much younger intern, portrayed by Dickinson. Kidman recently received the Best Actress award at the Venice International Film Festival for her role in this A24 production.
To navigate the film’s more explicit and challenging scenes, intimacy coordinator Lizzie Talbot was brought on board to guide the performances. Dickinson shared during a screening in London that discussions with Talbot helped them establish boundaries, allowing both him and Kidman to express themselves freely once comfort levels were defined. “The intimacy coordinator is saying, ‘What are you comfortable with, what do you want as a director? They’re facilitating that very delicately,” he explained.
During a gala event following the screening, Kidman addressed the film’s challenges, humorously stating, “The whole thing,” but elaborated that it was about being open and vulnerable every day. She emphasized the importance of creating a safe environment while also wanting to avoid looking foolish.
In one memorable scene, Dickinson dances nearly naked to George Michael’s “Father Figure” without any rehearsal. He described it as spontaneous, noting, “Halina put the song on and said, ‘Just dance.’” He humorously admitted to using a bit of whiskey beforehand to ease the embarrassment.
Reflecting on his experience filming alongside Kidman, Dickinson expressed his awe, continually probing her about working legendary filmmakers like Stanley Kubrick. He found Kidman to be a warm and approachable presence on set, stating, “She sets the tone and makes it so easy to be vulnerable and funny.” He praised her daring nature and innate playfulness, which fostered an enjoyable atmosphere for everyone involved.
