During Sony’s recent State of Play presentation, Sucker Punch unveiled a sneak peek of the next installment in its acclaimed Ghosts series, titled Ghost of Yotei. Players will take on the role of a new female lead named Atsu, who not only utilizes a traditional samurai sword but also wields a shamisen. The trailer revealed that Atsu’s journey will take her through the rugged terrains surrounding Mount Yotei, accompanied by an enigmatic wolf companion.
Sucker Punch Studios, known for creating the Sly Cooper and Infamous franchises, previously released Ghost of Tsushima in 2020. The game received widespread acclaim for its serene, thought-provoking experiences as well as its intense samurai combat reminiscent of Akira Kurosawa’s films. Earlier this year, the studio launched a PC version of Tsushima and announced that a film adaptation is in development, with Chad Stahelski, the director of John Wick, at the helm.
In their blog post announcing Ghost of Yotei, Sony highlighted that this game marks Sucker Punch’s first title designed specifically for the PlayStation 5. The developers promised to deliver the same visual splendor and reflective moments that fans enjoyed in the previous game while also introducing innovative features.
Andrew Goldfarb, communications manager at Sucker Punch, shared insights about the game’s advancements: “We have expansive sightlines that allow players to see far across the landscape, entirely new skies featuring sparkling stars and auroras, and even more realistic movements of wind through grass and vegetation. Our new setting also enables us to incorporate fresh mechanics, gameplay enhancements, and additional weapons.”
