Compounding his issues, Blaney’s team was forced to change the starter engine. This resulted in a penalty that pushed him to the rear of the field. Blaney is not alone in facing such difficulties; he is joined by six other drivers—Josh Berry, Bubba Wallace, William Byron, Cody Ware, Ty Dillon, and Brennan Poole—all of whom will also start from the back due to various infractions or failures.
Blaney, feeling optimistic despite the circumstances, expressed complete confidence in his crew chief Jonathan Hassler’s strategic abilities. “He’s one of the best at many things, but being creative in situations like this is one of his strong suits,” Blaney stated. His trust in the crew chief’s judgment is evident, as he is prepared to face the challenges ahead, including potential strategy adjustments during the race.
There’s a sense of unpredictability at Pocono, which could play to the advantage of these drivers. Wallace, for instance, started 29th last year but finished in the top ten, showing that anything is possible.
