Google recently launched the Pixel 9 series at an event in Mountain View, showcasing four new models, with the standard Pixel 9 being the most affordable option in the lineup. Despite being the entry-level model, the Pixel 9 boasts impressive features and performance, making it a solid choice for consumers.
The Pixel 9 is available starting at $799 and features a refined design reminiscent of previous iPhone models, with a flat display and rounded corners that provide a premium feel. It sports a 6.3-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2424 x 1080 and can reach a peak brightness of 2,700 nits. The device is powered by Google’s new Tensor G4 processor, 12GB of RAM, and offers options for 128GB or 256GB of storage. The 4,700mAh battery supports both 45W wired and 15W wireless charging.
Camera capabilities remain a key focus for Google. The Pixel 9 includes a 50MP main camera, a 48MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10.5MP selfie camera with autofocus. Enhanced camera features leverage AI technology to provide tools such as Magic Editor, Night Sight, and a new Add Me feature that merges images taken by two people in the same setting.
The device runs on Android 14, which is enhanced with the Gemini AI chatbot, offering features like context-based assistance and the ability to generate images. Alongside, Google is providing a year of the Google One AI Premium Plan for free, which includes access to advanced AI services.
In terms of durability, the Pixel 9 is equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. Google also assures seven years of software updates for all Pixel devices, enhancing their longevity.
While there are some drawbacks, including a $100 price increase from its predecessor and lack of a telephoto camera, the Pixel 9 still presents a robust option for those seeking a powerful and feature-rich smartphone.
Pre-orders for the Pixel 9 begin now, with availability set for September 4th.
