Anthony Mackie is navigating a new world order in the upcoming film Captain America: Brave New World. In this Marvel Studios production, Mackie reprises his role as Sam Wilson, and the film is described as a grounded political thriller similar to the 2014 hit Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Harrison Ford makes his Marvel debut as General Ross, a role previously portrayed by the late William Hurt. Following his presidential election, General Ross aims to integrate Captain America into an official military role. Sam Wilson appears to be unraveling a sinister global conspiracy, and fans will notice a brief glimpse of Ford as the Red Hulk battling Captain America.
Mackie’s journey as Sam Wilson started in Winter Soldier, where he was introduced as The Falcon, an ally to Chris Evans’ Captain America. He continued his role in Captain America: Civil War (2016) and several Avengers films before leading the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which depicted Sam’s transformation into Captain America.
The new film, set for a February 2025 release, is directed by The Cloverfield Paradox’s Julius Onah. The script is penned by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, who created The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, with additional contributions from Moon Knight writer Matthew Orton. Reshoots are incorporating a new character played by Giancarlo Esposito.
Other cast members include MCU newcomer Shira Haas, with Danny Ramirez reprising his role as Joaquin Torres from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson also return, having last appeared in 2008’s Incredible Hulk.
The trailer for Captain America: Brave New World is released just weeks before Marvel Studios’ next feature, Deadpool & Wolverine, and in advance of San Diego Comic-Con, where the studio’s upcoming projects are anticipated to be showcased.
