Following the recent update of the 2.5 Pro model, Google has unveiled a new feature called “scheduled actions” within the Gemini app. This feature aims to enhance user experience by streamlining routine tasks and delivering personalized updates directly to users.
Users can simply ask Gemini to perform tasks at specific times, dates, or even triggered by specific events. Furthermore, existing prompts can be transformed into recurring actions, with users able to receive updates on a daily or weekly basis. For mobile users, push notifications will keep them informed on their scheduled tasks.
For setting scheduled actions, users are advised to clearly provide the details on timing and frequency. Notably, if the scheduled task is location-based, Gemini will utilize the location from which the action was created for future responses.
Currently, users are permitted to maintain up to 10 active scheduled actions concurrently. A new “Scheduled actions” page has been introduced in the app’s settings, allowing users to manage their tasks by deleting or pausing/resuming them.
Potential use cases for this feature are diverse and practical. Users can schedule daily summaries of their calendars, to-do lists, and unread emails, receive weather updates and outfit suggestions based on their wardrobe, obtain weekly news updates about their favorite artists, and uncover new local cafes and restaurants to explore over the weekend. Additionally, creativity can be sparked by having Gemini generate blog ideas every Monday, or users might set a one-off task to receive a summary of an award show the day after it occurs.
The rollout of scheduled actions is currently available to Gemini users with either a Google AI Pro or AI Ultra subscription, along with qualifying Google Workspace business and education plans. However, as of now, this feature is not accessible for free users or on the mobile and desktop accounts that have been checked.
This initiative is part of Google’s broader effort to make Gemini more proactive and user-friendly, allowing users to simply communicate their needs and rely on Gemini to manage the rest. As such, the introduction of scheduled actions could significantly enhance user engagement and utility within the Gemini app.
