Motorists looking to take part in the Land Transport Authority of Fiji’s newly introduced Payment Plan must first settle all outstanding Traffic Infringement Notices (TINs). This requirement is crucial to becoming eligible for the plan, which aims to help customers address long-standing fines, particularly those incurred between 2017 and 2022.

The Payment Plan initiative, effective from January 23, 2026, mandates that all recent TINs issued from January 1, 2023, to the present must be cleared before any structured repayment agreement can be established for older fines. LTA Chief Executive Officer Irimaia Rokosawa emphasized this condition, stating, “To qualify for the payment plan, customers must first clear all outstanding TINs.”

Mr. Rokosawa explained that the Payment Plan is designed not only as a means of relief for motorists burdened with fines from previous years but also as a strategy to encourage compliance with road regulations. “The payment plan strictly applies only to the list of approved TINs covered under the signed agreement,” he said, indicating that any infringement notice issued outside this category must be addressed separately.

He also cautioned that if customers fail to meet the scheduled repayments, the agreement will be automatically canceled, underlining the importance of commitment to the repayment terms. Each payment plan is formalized through a detailed agreement that outlines the specific fines, repayment amounts, and timelines, fostering transparency and fairness.

From an operational viewpoint, this initiative is positioned to mitigate unrecovered penalties, alleviate administrative backlogs, and enhance the overall efficiency of the enforcement process. Mr. Rokosawa noted that the funds recovered from this plan will directly contribute to road safety programs, enforcement efforts, and transportation infrastructure, benefiting the wider community.

The introduction of the Payment Plan represents a proactive approach by the LTA, focusing on both compliance and community support, ultimately aiming to create a safer and more efficient transportation system in Fiji.
