General Motors has officially announced the 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X, a groundbreaking hybrid model that will deliver an unprecedented 1,250 horsepower, marking it as the most powerful Corvette in history. This powerhouse is set to hit the market near the end of 2025, and while pricing details are expected later this year, it is anticipated to be the priciest Corvette to date.
Key advancements in the ZR1X stem from its innovative midengine design, a strategic move originally mapped out in 2020. According to Ken Morris, GM’s Senior Vice President, the new breed of Corvette architecture was created with the ZR1X in mind, enhancing its performance capabilities.
The hybrid configuration includes a combination of a V8 engine and an electric motor, with the latter driving the front axle and the V8 propelling the rear. The vehicle boasts 1,064 horsepower from the LT7 5.5L V8 engine coupled with 186 horsepower from the electric motor. Notably, the ZR1X features a battery capacity similar to that of the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray but with enhancements that allow for more effective energy use and increased power output.
GM is also exploring an all-electric version of the Corvette, although specifics on its timeline have yet to be confirmed. Production of the ZR1X will take place at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant in Kentucky.
Experts in the automotive field, including Paul Waatti from AutoPacific, have noted that the ZR1X positions the Corvette into hypercar territory, expanding the model’s appeal from the entry-level Stingray to the highly advanced E-Ray and now the ZR1X.
As the Chevrolet Corvette continues to evolve, industry analysts like Stephanie Brinley remark on the brand’s value in the ultra-sports car segment, emphasizing that each new Corvette represents cutting-edge advancements in design and technology.
