On Saturday, a significant gathering took place at Waterfront Park in San Diego, where hundreds of registered attendees participated in the People’s March. This event was organized to promote unity and solidarity with marginalized and oppressed communities. The rally kicked off at 11 a.m. and was highlighted by a performance from a local protest band, The Resizters, drawing a crowd that reportedly ranged from 1,500 to potentially 2,000 people throughout the day.

Activist and lead organizer Joshua Biragbara expressed enthusiasm about the event, stating, “Very awesome event. A large amount of people from all races and orientations showed up. Trump will be scared of us for the next four years.” The demonstration featured speeches, protest songs, and chants, all of which contributed to an atmosphere of collective action among the diverse attendees.

The march took participants on a route exceeding one mile, looping down Harbor Drive and up Pacific Highway. The event concluded with two hours dedicated to “Community Building Time,” emphasizing collaboration and cooperative efforts among participants. San Diego Pride officials reinforced the rally’s message by announcing their commitment to defending freedoms against authoritarianism, advocating for oppressed voices in San Diego and beyond.

“The collective strength we showcase sends a clear message: Our freedoms are inalienable, and we will not allow them to be threatened,” noted the organizers. They rallied under a banner of solidarity, declaring, “We are one people, with one planet,” highlighting the empowerment of communities coming together for a cause.

As the event drew to a close at 4 p.m., participants had the option to either leave or assist with cleanup, further emphasizing the spirit of cooperation and community engagement.

This demonstration serves as a hopeful reminder of the power of collective voices advocating for change and the importance of unity in the face of adversity. It stands as an example of how communities can come together to amplify their demands for equality and justice.
