Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd are set to star in the upcoming A24 film Death of a Unicorn, directed and written by Alex Scharfman. This intriguing movie is scheduled to be released in theaters this spring and features an impressive supporting cast including Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, Richard E. Grant, Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, and Jessica Hynes.

The plot revolves around a father, played by Rudd, and his daughter, portrayed by Ortega, who embark on a weekend getaway with Rudd’s billionaire boss, played by Grant. Their trip takes an unexpected turn when they accidentally hit a unicorn with their car. The situation escalates when the boss discovers the unicorn possesses miraculous healing abilities, sparking complications for the group.

A notable moment in the trailer captures Ortega’s character acknowledging the creature’s existence, stating, “It’s a fucking unicorn,” while Poulter’s character is astonished to learn that the unicorn may have the ability to cure cancer. As the narrative unfolds, Ortega pleads with her father to return the unicorn, warning that ignoring its needs could lead to dire consequences.

Producers for the film include Scharfman, Tyler Campellone, Tim Headington, Drew Houpt, Lucas Joaquin, Lars Knudsen, and Theresa Steele Page, with Ortega, Rudd, and Ari Aster serving as executive producers. Scharfman previously produced the horror film House of Spoils.

In addition to this film, Jenna Ortega will return to Netflix’s Wednesday for its second season next year, while Rudd continues to make waves in other projects, including Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

This film promises to blend fantasy and profound themes, as it explores the consequences of human actions and the importance of nature. Death of a Unicorn is shaping up to be a thought-provoking, yet entertaining tale that could resonate with audiences seeking both humor and depth in cinema.
