The Ukrainian biathlon team is intensively gearing up for the 2025/26 Olympic season, spotlighting the Winter Olympics in Italy in 2026. A crucial phase of their preparation involves training at the Antholz arena in Italy, renowned for hosting significant biathlon events.
According to biathlete Vitaliy Mandzin, the team has already conducted two training sessions at this high-altitude location, which sits at 1600 meters. “Our head coach is adeptly organizing our preparation and camp planning. This strategic approach ensures we can deliver exceptional performances in winter,” Mandzin noted, emphasizing the advantage of familiarizing with the shooting range and track to enhance their Olympic prospects.
After competing in the summer championship of Ukraine in Syanky, Mandzin will channel his efforts into training for the upcoming season and the 2026 Olympic Games, aiming to solidify his position as a leading figure in the national team.
The primary biathlon season kicks off in late November with the World Cup event in Östersund, Sweden, granting the Ukrainian team three months to refine their skills before the February 2026 Olympics. Mandzin highlighted the importance of a short break for rejuvenation before embarking on rigorous winter training, focusing on the twin challenges of skiing and shooting that define biathlon.
Key athletes Dmitry Pidruchny and Taras Lesyuk did not participate in the summer championship, but the team remains steadfast in their preparatory efforts for future competitions.
