A significant outage is affecting several major phone networks in the UK, including BT, EE, Three, and Vodafone, leaving millions of customers unable to make or receive calls. Reports of the issues surged on Thursday afternoon, with users flocking to social media to share their frustrations.

“I’m unable to make or receive any calls,” an EE user expressed on X, while another Vodafone user lamented, “I can’t get through to my dad.” A spokesperson for Vodafone acknowledged the difficulties, stating, “We’re really sorry, but due to some technical issues, some customers are experiencing problems making or receiving calls. We know how important this service is, and we’re working hard to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.”

EE representatives have also communicated with users on social media, indicating they are actively investigating the situation. According to maps from DownDetector, areas such as London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Glasgow appear to be the hardest hit by the outages.

In contrast, O2 has confirmed that its network is operating normally, explaining that any reported issues are likely related to difficulties customers are encountering when trying to contact friends or family on affected networks. The spokesperson emphasized that the minor spike in reports reflects these redirected problems rather than issues within O2’s own network.

It is a reminder of how connected we are and how critical reliable communication services are to our daily lives. As the service providers work to restore functionality, there is hope that the situation will soon be resolved, allowing users to re-establish their connections swiftly.
