The UConn women’s basketball team, ranked No. 2, continues their strong season with a commanding 71-52 victory over Oregon State in the Baha Mar Women’s Championship held in Nassau, Bahamas. Redshirt senior Paige Bueckers delivered an impressive performance, scoring 23 points along with six assists and three rebounds. This marked her third game this season with over 20 points.
Freshman Sarah Strong also made significant contributions to the team’s success, registering 13 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and six steals. Redshirt freshman Jana El Alfy contributed 12 points to the team’s total. UConn’s defense was particularly effective, as they outscored Oregon State 22-7 in the first quarter and maintained a solid lead, ending the first half with a score of 42-19.
Freshman Allie Ziebell found her rhythm in the second quarter, scoring all of her seven points during that period. Sophomore KK Arnold showcased her defensive skills with three steals and five assists. Graduate student Azzi Fudd, in just her second game back after a year-long hiatus, recorded a career-high in assists with five and added four rebounds.
Looking forward, the Huskies are set to face No. 18 Ole Miss in what promises to be an exciting championship game on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on FloCollege and aired on the UConn Sports Network.
