UConn Women’s Basketball: Can They Keep the Winning Streak Alive?

The UConn women’s basketball team, currently ranked No. 2, showcased a dominant performance in the Baha Mar Women’s Championship, defeating Oregon State with a score of 71-52. Redshirt senior Paige Bueckers led the charge with an impressive 23 points, marking her third game of the season scoring over 20 points, and contributed six assists and three rebounds to the team’s success.

Freshman Sarah Strong made a significant impact off the bench, recording 13 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and an impressive six steals. Meanwhile, redshirt freshman Jana El Alfy added 12 points to the scoreboard. The Huskies established early control of the game, outscoring the Beavers 22-7 in the first quarter, and extended their lead to 42-19 at halftime, thanks to a strong quarter from freshman Allie Ziebell, who scored all of her seven points in the second period.

Defensively, sophomore KK Arnold proved to be a key player with three steals and five assists. Graduate student Azzi Fudd, making her second appearance in a year, also had a noteworthy game, contributing a career-high five assists alongside four rebounds.

Looking ahead, the Huskies are set to face off against No. 18 Ole Miss in the championship game on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. This match-up promises to be an exciting contest as UConn aims to maintain their winning momentum.
