The undefeated UConn women’s basketball team (27-0, 16-0 BIG EAST) is set to face the Villanova Wildcats (21-5, 14-3) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Finneran Pavilion in Villanova, Pennsylvania. A victory against Villanova would secure at least a shared title for UConn in the 2025-26 BIG EAST regular season. Since rejoining the BIG EAST in 2020, the Huskies have dominated the league, clinching every regular season championship to date. They have also achieved an impressive streak of 63 consecutive league wins, including tournament games.
In their last game, UConn overcame Marquette with a solid 71-56 victory in Milwaukee. Graduate student Azzi Fudd led the charge with 25 points, while sophomore Sarah Strong contributed 22 points. Particularly noteworthy was Fudd’s performance, scoring 17 points in the first half, and Strong’s impressive turnaround that saw her score 19 in the second half. Junior KK Arnold made significant contributions as well, tallying 10 points, a career-high nine assists, and six rebounds. Following this strong performance, Fudd was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, averaging 22.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.0 steals over two games with remarkable shooting percentages.
Historically, UConn holds a 48-18 advantage over Villanova, with their last encounter resulting in a commanding 99-50 victory for the Huskies, where Strong led the team with 24 points, nine rebounds, and five blocks.
Villanova comes into the matchup with momentum, having won their last six games, including a recent triumph over Creighton, 74-64. The Wildcats are spearheaded by Jasmine Bascoe, averaging 18.1 points per game, under the guidance of sixth-year head coach Denise Dillon.
