UConn lands first 2026 commit: Utah wing from Wasatch Academy

The UConn men’s basketball team has secured its first commitment from the 2026 class, adding a promising talent in Junior County, a 6-foot-5 wing from Wasatch Academy in Utah. County, regarded as the No. 40 recruit nationally by 247Sports.com’s composite ranking, announced his decision after an official visit to UConn last weekend.

Known for his athleticism and defensive prowess, County has been a high-priority target for the Huskies and is praised for his strong character, which aligns well with the culture that head coach Dan Hurley has fostered in Storrs. His decision follows a series of visits to prominent programs, including Indiana, Arizona, and Maryland, with significant interest also shown by Purdue and Texas A&M prior to Buzz Williams’ recent departure from the Aggies.

Born and raised in Utah, County is part of a select group of Utah natives to play for UConn, with Travis Knight being a notable recent example. His family has a strong athletic background; his father, Adolph County, played as a defensive back for the University of Utah in the 1990s. There is a further connection as Adolph was once a teammate with David Benedict, who now serves as UConn’s athletic director.

The Huskies, having targeted one or two commitments this fall, are still actively pursuing other high-level recruits, including 6-5 point guard Dylan Mingo, 6-6 wing Qayden Samuels, and 6-6 small forward Colben Landrew, who is set to visit Storrs this weekend.

UConn fans can look forward to the potential impact of County’s addition, as he brings a blend of skill, character, and connection to the program, promising to contribute to the team’s success in the coming years.
