UConn lands 2026 guard Junior County in early commitment

The UConn men’s basketball program has secured its first commitment for the 2026 recruiting class with the addition of Junior County, a promising 6-foot-4 guard from Wasatch Academy in Utah. County announced his decision to join the Huskies on Thursday following his official visit last weekend, backing his choice with positive impressions from practice, interactions with Coach Dan Hurley, and the campus environment.

County, a consensus four-star recruit, is highly regarded among scouting services, ranked No. 29 by 247Sports and No. 43 by ESPN. His decision came after a competitive recruitment process that included notable programs like Arizona, Indiana, Maryland, and Purdue. However, it was his experience at UConn that stood out, as he expressed a belief in his potential to grow and develop within the program.

247Sports Director of Scouting, Adam Finkelstein, highlighted County’s attributes, describing him as strong, physical, and possessing long arms complemented by numerous winning intangibles. He emphasized County’s versatility, high basketball IQ, and ability to positively impact games in various ways.

Last spring and summer, County showcased his talent on the Nike EYBL circuit, averaging 13.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists with the Utah Prospects. Notably, he recorded two 20-point games and demonstrated his shooting ability with four three-pointers in multiple outings.

County’s skill set aligns perfectly with Coach Hurley’s vision for the team, as he can defend multiple positions and is steadily improving as both a ball-handler and three-point shooter. The Huskies are actively seeking one or two more commitments this fall and remain in the running for additional 2026 prospects. Among those contenders are five-star point guard Dylan Mingo and 6-foot-6 wings Qayden Samuels and Colben Landrew, with Landrew scheduled to visit the campus soon.

UConn’s basketball program is poised for growth as they continue to attract top talent, signaling a bright future ahead.
