The UConn Huskies celebrated Senior Night with a thrilling 34-27 victory against Georgia State at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field. This win improves their season record to 6-3, marking their bowl eligibility with three games remaining, a promising sign for the program as they aim for their first winning season since 2010.
Before the game, the team honored 24 senior players for their contributions, reflecting UConn’s growth under head coach Jim Mora. Mora emphasized the importance of continuing to win, stating, “Bowl eligible doesn’t mean that you’re bowl bound,” and stressing that the team must concentrate on their upcoming challenges.
UConn dominated early, quickly taking a 7-0 lead following a 52-yard run by running back Mel Brown, followed by a touchdown pass from quarterback Nick Evers to tight end Louis Hansen. Even though Georgia State managed to equalize in the second quarter, a crucial interception by UConn’s D’Mon Brinson halted their momentum, allowing the Huskies to regain the lead before halftime.
In the second half, UConn continued to showcase their running game, with key plays from Cam Edwards and a decisive touchdown from Durrell Robinson, extending their lead to 20-10. Despite a late rally from Georgia State, UConn’s strong ground attack, with prolific performances from Brown and Edwards, ultimately sealed the victory.
This achievement marks a significant turnaround for UConn, as it is their first time winning six games at home in a season since 2010. The team now sets its sights on their next game against UAB, where a victory would not only secure bowl eligibility but also uplift the program further.
The progress UConn has made this season is an encouraging sign, as they look to establish a consistent competitive edge and finish strong as they advance in their remaining schedule.
