UCF Mourns Sudden Death of Offensive Line Coach Shawn Clark

The University of Central Florida (UCF) Athletics community mourns the sudden loss of offensive line coach Shawn Clark, who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 50. His untimely death occurred on Sunday evening at a local hospital, shortly after being admitted for a medical emergency.

UCF head coach Scott Frost praised Clark not only as an extraordinary coach but also as a remarkable family man who genuinely cared about his players and colleagues. “Shawn was loved and respected by all who knew him,” Frost expressed, extending his deepest sympathies to Clark’s wife, Jonelle, and their children, Giana and Braxton. He assured them of the community’s ongoing support during this challenging time.

Clark joined UCF in December 2024, bringing more than twenty years of coaching experience from his notable stint as head coach at Appalachian State. There, he achieved significant milestones, including a 40-24 record over five seasons, a standout 10-win season in 2021, and several bowl victories. His tenure at Appalachian State also saw his offensive line units recognized among the nation’s best.

Terry Mohajir, UCF Vice President and Director of Athletics, expressed profound sorrow over Clark’s passing. He recalled Clark’s unwavering passion, integrity, and love for the game, highlighting the meaningful relationships he forged and the exemplary life he led as a husband and father.

Clark’s legacy extends beyond coaching. As a two-time All-American player at Appalachian State, he contributed significantly to the team’s 45-16 record. His coaching career included impactful roles at Eastern Kentucky, Purdue, and Kent State, guiding multiple athletes to All-American honors and the NFL.

Educated in criminal justice and furthering his studies with a master’s in education, Clark leaves behind a legacy that transcends his professional accomplishments. As his family and the UCF community grieve his loss, they hold onto the memories and significant influence he leaves behind.

Shawn Clark is survived by his wife, Jonelle, and their two children, Giana and Braxton. The entire UCF Athletics community extends its heartfelt condolences to his family during this period of sorrow.
