U.S. Open Weather Woes: Play Suspended Again!

Play was halted during the fourth round of the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont due to inclement weather, marking the second suspension in just four days. The first disruption happened while players were completing their second round Friday night. Rain has significantly impacted the tournament, with players unable to compete under worsening conditions.

AccuWeather forecasts predict temperatures reaching a high of 66 degrees today, accompanied by occasional rain and drizzle. East-northeast winds are expected to blow between 5-10 mph, leading to concerns about a potential continuation of delays. If the tournament extends into Monday, rain chances are projected at 80%.

The U.S. Golf Association (USGA) confirmed that ticket refunds will be available for fans who prefer not to brave the wet weather. This policy is part of the USGA’s broader weather policy which includes color-coded alerts to inform spectators about various weather conditions, ranging from general advisories to imminent danger from storms.

Safety protocols state that play is suspended in cases of lightning or if water accumulates on greens and fairways. Should dangerous weather arise, spectators are urged to seek shelter immediately, avoiding open areas and high ground.

In terms of refunds, fans unable to attend due to the rain will be able to request a refund until Thursday, June 19. Note that ticket policies typically do not allow for refunds or re-entries due to inclement weather, but exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis.

As the tournament navigates these unpredictable weather conditions, it highlights the resilience of both players and fans amidst the uncertainty. The USGA remains vigilant in monitoring the situation to ensure everyone’s safety, allowing the possibility for play to resume once conditions improve.
