Tyrese Gibson described his recent arrest for contempt related to unpaid child support as a “very traumatic” experience. The “Fast & Furious” actor shared his thoughts in two Instagram Stories on Tuesday, expressing his distress over the situation.
“Getting arrested wasn’t fun; in fact, it was very traumatic,” he wrote, questioning why Judge Kevin M. Farmer seemed to have a personal vendetta against him. He attached details of his appeal in the post.
In a second story, Gibson reiterated his sentiments while naming his ex-wife, Samantha Lee, and her lawyer, Adam Glickman. The legal dispute traces back to 2020, according to documents obtained by TheWrap.
The arrest warrant was issued by a Fulton County, Georgia judge on Monday after Lee filed a motion claiming that Gibson was behind on child support payments for their five-year-old daughter, Soraya. The judge ruled that Gibson should “be taken into custody and incarcerated” due to “willful contempt for failure to make child support payments.” The order stipulated that he could be released upon paying $73,500 to settle the matter.
Prior to the hearing, Gibson had addressed his followers on Instagram, acknowledging the possibility of his arrest. He emphasized his role as a father, stating that his identity as a dad is defined not by material possessions but by the connection he shares with his children. He concluded with a slideshow of images featuring himself and his kids, expressing the profound love he holds for them and affirming that he will always be their father.
