Tyreek Hill, a wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, was briefly detained by police prior to the team’s Week 1 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, as confirmed by both his agent and the team.
The Dolphins reported that Hill was stopped by law enforcement due to a traffic-related incident near the team’s home stadium. “This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police,” the team’s official X account stated. “He has since been released. Several teammates witnessed the incident and offered support. Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived at the stadium and will be available for today’s game.”
Footage shared on social media showed Hill lying face down on the ground while officers appeared to place handcuffs on him. The police indicated they are reviewing the details surrounding the incident.
Now 30 years old, Hill is in his third season with the Dolphins and has faced multiple legal challenges in his past. In 2014, he pleaded guilty to domestic assault after being arrested for an incident involving his pregnant girlfriend. He was investigated by Kansas City police in 2019 regarding alleged battery involving his then 3-year-old son, but no charges were filed, nor did the NFL take action against him. In 2023, Hill settled a dispute with a Haulover Marine Center employee who accused him of assault following a verbal altercation, but again, no charges were brought against him, and the league opted not to impose penalties.
