Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s head coach Richard Walker is looking forward to the contributions of two promising newcomers, Adi Salote Nailolo and Alfreda Fisher, as they prepare for the upcoming HSBC Singapore 7s tournament. Both players earned their spots on the team through impressive performances in local 7s competitions.

Nailolo and Fisher, who are transitioning from a 15s rugby background, have quickly adapted to the fast-paced 7s format. Walker praised their performances at the Coral Coast 7s, highlighting Nailolo’s strength in ball carrying and her ability to remain influential on the field. Meanwhile, Fisher has shone in her role around the ruck, excelling in defensive tackles while also making significant offensive contributions.

Fisher’s experience is noteworthy; she is the youngest captain in the history of the Fijiana XV team, bringing valuable leadership to the squad. As she navigates this new phase of her rugby career, she and Nailolo have received a warm welcome from their teammates. Team captain Verenaisi Ditavitu has encouraged them to seize this opportunity while upholding the team’s ethos. “Like I always say to all the girls in my team, be the best versions of yourself and be good role models for your teammates,” she noted.

The Fijiana will begin their tournament with a match against Australia at 3:26 PM on Saturday, followed by games against the USA at 6:30 PM and concluding pool play against Japan at 9:56 PM. The addition of Nailolo and Fisher is expected to strengthen the team’s performance as they aim to leave a lasting impression at this prestigious event. Their integration into the squad reflects the dynamic growth of women’s rugby in Fiji, showcasing a promising future for the sport.
