Two esteemed Fijian diplomats in Abu Dhabi have been awarded the Civil Service Medal for their outstanding service and leadership in promoting Fiji’s interests on the international stage. The medals were presented by President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu during a special ceremony on Monday, attended by First Lady Emily Lalabalavu, family members, and staff from the embassy. The President praised the recipients, First Secretary Sanaila Laqai and Second Secretary Jaljeet Kumar, for their steadfast commitment and professionalism.
In his address, President Lalabalavu expressed pride in Laqai and Kumar’s accomplishments, noting that their exemplary service sets a high standard for other Fijians serving abroad. He remarked, “Their loyalty and dedication have strengthened Fiji’s diplomatic standing while ensuring that our citizens abroad receive vital support.”
Laqai has devoted over 15 years to public service, playing a significant role in enhancing diplomatic relations with countries such as China, the United Arab Emirates, and various nations across the Gulf, Middle East, and North Africa. His contributions have greatly benefited the Fijian community abroad by providing essential consular services.
Kumar, who brings nearly two decades of civil service experience, has been instrumental in advancing Fiji’s diplomatic interests in South Korea, the United States, Canada, and Gulf nations. Acknowledged for his extensive knowledge and professionalism, he has held important positions, including assignments in Seoul and Washington, before his current role in Abu Dhabi.
President Lalabalavu underscored that the awards not only reflect the high caliber of Fijians representing the country but also the integrity and commitment of those serving their nation. He encouraged all civil servants to embrace these values, fostering a culture of diligence and patriotism that enhances Fiji’s global reputation.
This recognition highlights the crucial role public servants play in shaping Fiji’s image and standing in the world. The dedication shown by Laqai and Kumar serves as an inspiring testament to the excellence that can elevate a nation, reflecting a hopeful outlook for Fiji’s future on the global stage.
