Two men have been arrested in connection with an assault on a bus driver in Makoi, which took place on the morning of September 27, 2025. The arrests were executed by the Nasinu Operations team, which is currently conducting further questioning of the suspects.

According to reports, the men and a group of accomplices boarded a public bus without paying their fare. When the bus driver confronted them about their refusal to pay, they responded with threats, coercing the driver to continue to their desired destination. Upon arrival, the group reportedly attacked the driver before making their escape.

The investigation has also brought to light potential inaction by the local community post. Following the incident, the victim sought assistance at the Tuirara Community Post but may not have received adequate support.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding safety in public transportation, reminiscent of recent disturbances noted at the Nadi Bus Station. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, has emphasized the need for community members to report such incidents promptly. His remarks stress that swift action by law enforcement is vital for maintaining public safety for both drivers and passengers.

The prompt response by police in this situation serves as a hopeful indicator of the effectiveness of community vigilance and law enforcement collaboration. As authorities continue their investigations, there is optimism that improved measures will be put in place to enhance the safety of public transport users and ensure a secure environment for everyone involved.
