Twists and Turns: How a Disqualification Changed the Race at Nashville Speedway

NASHVILLE — A dramatic twist unfolded at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway on Thursday night, as Trey Craig was named the official winner of the Rackley Roofing Battle of Broadway 150 after Josh Berry was disqualified following a post-race technical inspection. Berry, who initially crossed the finish line in first place during the combined JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour and the Rogers Dabbs Performance Parts Southern Pro Series event, was found to have violated left side weight percentage regulations.

As a result of this disqualification, Craig, who had finished second on the track, is now recognized as the winner, marking his second consecutive victory in this prestigious Pro Late Model event. Craig started the race from seventh position and skillfully maneuvered through the field, consistently gaining ground and challenging for the lead in the final laps.

Dawson Sutton, who had a strong start and initially led the race, was waiting to challenge for a top position. He is now credited with a second-place finish, while Hunter Wright moves up to third. Isaac Kitzmiller and Dustin Smith round out the revised top five.

Early in the race, Sutton not only drew the pole position but also showcased his speed by being the CP Race Wear Fast Qualifier. He maintained a solid lead alongside his teammate Kitzmiller until a caution on lap 49 for a spin by Tucker Wingo slowed the momentum. Berry seized the opportunity, advancing from second to first on lap 82, before managing to extend his lead until a caution on lap 106 caused by an incident involving Aidan Potter and Stacey Crain.

While Berry initially appeared set for victory after leading the final restart, the inspection ruling dramatically reshaped the results, enhancing Craig’s status as the champion of the night. This unexpected outcome reflects the high-stakes nature of racing, where technical adherence is as vital as on-track performance.

The race’s conclusion serves as a reminder of the competitive spirit within motorsport, where perseverance and attention to detail can pay off, bringing new opportunities to deserving competitors like Craig.
