Twins Hold Breath as All-Star Buxton Faces Injury Setback

The Minnesota Twins have decided to rest All-Star center fielder Byron Buxton for Thursday’s game against the Chicago Cubs due to a bruised left hand. However, his absence from the starting lineup is not expected to be prolonged.

Manager Rocco Baldelli indicated that Buxton might still contribute as a substitute, potentially as a pinch-hitter, contingent on how he responds to the discomfort. Buxton sustained the bruise when he was hit by a pitch in the first inning of Wednesday’s game. Although he continued to participate after the incident, he ultimately was taken out of the game before his next at-bat. Fortunately, X-rays confirmed that there are no fractures present.

“Nothing’s really gotten worse from yesterday, but he’s definitely sore and for the same reasons he came out of the game yesterday, he’s not going to be starting the game today,” Baldelli mentioned, expressing confidence in Buxton’s swift recovery.

The Twins’ front office and fans alike have reason to remain optimistic, as Buxton is slated to attend his second All-Star Game and make his debut in the Home Run Derby next week in Georgia, his home state. Baldelli suggested that monitoring Buxton’s condition over the next couple of days will provide clarity on his return.

Through 75 games this season, Buxton has already hit 20 home runs, positioning him tied for sixth in the American League. He also ranks highly in various key offensive statistics, including third in runs and slugging percentage, and seventh in stolen bases. These strong numbers highlight his critical role in the Twins’ lineup as they navigate this injury situation.

With continued care and evaluation, it’s hopeful that Buxton will soon return to his impactful form, giving the Twins a significant boost as the season progresses.
