The highly anticipated romantic comedy “Twice Over,” featuring Mia Wasikowska and Charlie Heaton, is set to make waves in the film industry. Directed by Alena Lodkina, this Australian production delves into a narrative about two individuals whose unexpected reunion brings to light long-held emotions and complicated truths regarding love, time, and personal reinvention.
Heretic, the Athens-based sales outfit, is gearing up to presell the film at the upcoming European Film Market. The screenplay is a collaborative effort between Lodkina and Miles Allinson, while the production team includes Kate Glover and Nathan Lewis for Never/Sleep Pictures, alongside Aidan O’Bryan from WBMC and Gregory Jankilevitsch of Mid-March Media. Glover has a history of successful partnerships with Heretic on projects such as Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s “Hot Milk” and Romain Gavras’ “Sacrifice.”
Heretic’s Head of Sales, Ioanna Stais, expressed enthusiasm about the film, stating, “Twice Over combines Alena Lodkina’s distinctive voice with the star power of Mia Wasikowska and Charlie Heaton, and we’re very excited to introduce it to buyers at EFM.”
Director Alena Lodkina reflected positively on the filming experience, noting, “Every day on set with Mia and Charlie was full of discovery. They are remarkable actors and I consider it a great fortune to have had the experience of working with them and listening to their instincts. It was truly a joy.”
The film was shot in the scenic port city of Fremantle, Australia, while post-production is currently being handled in Poland by Madants. “Twice Over” has received investment from Screen Australia and partnerships with Screenwest and Lotterywest, among others. The project is backed by notable support from Mid-March Media, the MIFF Premiere Fund, WBMC, and Never Sleep Pictures, with executive producers that include industry veterans such as Klaudia Smieja and Natalie Coleman.
In Australia, the film will be distributed by Bonsai, further positioning it for a promising release. Additionally, Heretic’s slate at the European Film Market includes “Trial of Hein,” directed by Kai Staenicke, which is featured in the Berlinale Perspectives competition, as well as the co-produced “Dust” from Anke Blonde, selected for the Berlinale’s main competition.
With its rich storyline and talented cast, “Twice Over” promises to offer audiences a heartfelt exploration of relationships, making it an exciting addition to the romantic comedy genre.
