Twenty individuals have successfully graduated from an innovative 12-week pilot program created by boutique consultancy Solved Fiji, aimed at enhancing the country’s knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) and information technology outsourcing (ITO) sectors. This program provided practical training in crucial and high-demand areas including artificial intelligence (AI), web design, online marketing, and digital development.
Janice Nand, director of Solved Fiji, explained that the initiative seeks to empower young Fijians to confidently pursue high-value digital careers while aiding local businesses in their ability to compete on a global scale. “These graduates are equipped to drive Fiji’s move up the outsourcing value chain, a win for our youth, our businesses, and our economy,” Ms. Nand expressed.
Australian High Commission First Secretary, Emily Wilson, recognized the importance of building practical skills among Fijians to meet the escalating global demand for specialized outsourcing services. She highlighted Australia’s ongoing support for the industry through the Market Development Facility (MDF), which has been instrumental in fostering skill development, job creation, and inclusive growth in Fiji. “Innovation and partnership can unlock real opportunities for Fijian communities and businesses,” Ms. Wilson stated during the graduation ceremony.
Graduate Ilisaveci Volaumaitoga shared her experience, expressing how the program facilitated significant knowledge and skill acquisition, particularly in how AI tools can improve efficiency not only in outsourcing but also in various other sectors including education, finance, tourism, and healthcare. She acknowledged the challenges faced during the course but credited teamwork and positivity for their success.
According to Solved Fiji, the outsourcing industry significantly impacts the Fijian economy, contributing approximately $235 million annually and employing over 8,000 individuals, a number that has tripled since 2018. Yet, many graduates still struggle with the technical skills necessary for KPO and ITO roles. In response to this gap, Solved Fiji has committed to assisting graduates by facilitating direct industry placements in outsourcing firms located in Nadi and Suva.
This initiative not only prepares graduates for immediate employment but also aligns with global outsourcing trends, suggesting positive prospects for Fiji’s economic landscape and the growth of its digital workforce. As the country continues to enhance its educational and training frameworks, it stands to solidify its reputation as a competitive player in the global outsourcing market.
