Former Fiji 7s star Jerry Tuwai has expressed his unwavering support for the national men’s rugby team, emphasizing that they are still on the right path despite encountering challenges on the World Rugby Sevens Series circuit. Tuwai, a double Olympic gold medallist, noted that while the team’s overall performance is commendable, they have been hindered by costly basic errors in critical moments that have prevented them from securing necessary victories.
Tuwai remains optimistic, asserting that these issues are correctable and believes the team will quickly regain their momentum. His perspective, shaped by both his experiences as a former player and as a spectator, underscores the dedication of the squad. “I think they are performing really well at the moment but basic errors that cost them the game. I know that they will bounce back,” he stated confidently.
The former rugby star reiterated that every team enters a tournament with the intention of giving their best and securing wins. “No teams go there and play to lose. Sometimes our opposition is just good on the day. But I believe in my heart that they will come back stronger in the next tournament,” he remarked.
Tuwai emphasized the importance of reflecting on their recent performances in Cape Town and Dubai, urging the team to return to the drawing board to address the mistakes made. With his support and belief in the team’s potential to improve, there’s hope that Fiji’s rugby men’s side will rise to the occasion in upcoming tournaments.
