Tuicuvu Returns to Flying Fijians Squad as Masi Faces Setback Ahead of England Test

Setareki Tuicuvu, a utility back from France, has been added to the Fiji Water Flying Fijians’ 32-man squad for the upcoming November Autumn Test series, replacing Iosefo Masi. This change was confirmed by head coach Mick Byrne following medical assessments indicating that Masi may not regain full fitness until the end of the tour.

Originally, Masi was included in the squad with hopes that he would recover in time for the early matches, but an updated MRI disqualified him from playing. Byrne expressed disappointment over Masi’s situation, emphasizing the player’s importance but acknowledged the opportunity for Tuicuvu, who had initially been part of the original squad.

Tuicuvu’s absence from previous travel was due to health issues, but he has now received medical clearance. The team is hopeful that Tuicuvu’s inclusion will inject fresh energy into the lineup. Meanwhile, Masi, who has faced significant injuries throughout the season, recently sustained a left hamstring injury, sidelining him for approximately eight weeks following a game with his club Lyon last month.

As the Flying Fijians prepare to face England in their opening match on November 9, resilience continues to characterize the team despite the challenges posed by injuries. The coaching staff emphasize the importance of player health and recovery, ensuring that the squad is in the best shape possible for the competitive tests ahead. Keeping morale high amidst such transitions is crucial, with Byrne aiming to create a cohesive and adaptable team ready for the upcoming challenges.
