Streaming platform Tubi has entered into a partnership with Kickstarter to enhance distribution opportunities for independent filmmakers utilizing the crowdfunding site. This collaboration involves Tubi’s investment in Kickstarter’s newly established FilmStream Collective Fund, which aims to support filmmakers during the completion phase of their projects by covering critical post-production costs such as editing and marketing.
The new initiative seeks to curate a selection of at least 20 indie films that have garnered significant fan engagement on Kickstarter, which will be exclusively available on Tubi—an ad-supported service boasting 97 million monthly active users. Anjali Sud, CEO of Tubi, expressed enthusiasm about the potential to connect Kickstarter creators with a vast audience, stating, “Tubi is becoming the home for the next generation of Hollywood talent.”
This partnership seeks to not only expand Tubi’s content offerings but also align with Kickstarter’s mission to assist creatives in launching their projects. As part of the agreement, Tubi will directly support 10 selected crowdfunding campaigns, ensuring that these films receive guaranteed distribution on the platform for the first three months post-release. Additionally, filmmakers will be able to share in the advertising revenue generated by their films on Tubi.
Kickstarter’s new executive liaison for professional filmmakers, Taylor K. Shaw, emphasized the company’s commitment to reducing barriers for creators, highlighting the importance of collaboration in bringing artistic visions to life. This initiative will foster a stronger connection between filmmakers and audiences while promoting a diverse lineup of projects.
By creating a channel for crowdfunded films, both Tubi and Kickstarter aim to empower independent filmmakers and introduce creative storytelling to wider audiences.
