U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama is under scrutiny following his posts on social media, as he attributed the inability of Alabamians to watch college football games on YouTube TV to Google. This came as fans were eagerly anticipating matchups between Alabama and LSU, as well as Auburn and Vanderbilt.

In a recent message shared on X, Tuberville expressed discontent, urging Google to resolve the situation: “Alabamians are excited to watch Bama/LSU and Auburn/Vandy this weekend… But they may not be able to if @YouTubeTV doesn’t get their act together. Give your customers what they are paying for @google.”

His comments have sparked significant backlash, with more than 300 responses predominantly disagreeing with him. Many pointed out that it is actually Disney, the parent company of ESPN, that is at the center of the dispute and has caused the blackout of the channels. One user remarked, “None of these Big Tech firms deserves sympathy, but you should get your facts straight,” while another stated, “ESPN/Disney is holding us for ransom. They are the devil in this. Not YTTV.”

The conflict arose when YouTube TV removed ESPN content from its platform due to an unmet contractual agreement between the two companies. Google had expressed concerns regarding Disney’s proposed economic terms, which they claimed would lead to increased costs for YouTube TV users and limit their choices. In response, Disney claimed that YouTube TV was looking for agreement on terms that were not reflective of the current market.

As the situation develops, the blackout affects several channels including ABC and multiple ESPN programming options. Fans are left hoping for a resolution so they can enjoy their favorite college football games as originally planned.
