Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, has shared misleading images on social media that falsely imply pop artist Taylor Swift and her fans, known as Swifties, are endorsing him for the upcoming U.S. elections.
In his posts, Trump included multiple AI-generated images sourced from right-wing social media accounts with a track record of spreading misinformation. One image features fans in “Swifties for Trump” T-shirts, while another presents Swift dressed as Uncle Sam, reminiscent of a WWI U.S. Army recruitment poster, encouraging votes for Trump. A third image, marked as “satire,” presents a fabricated headline that claims Swift fans have turned to Trump following the cancellation of one of her concerts in Vienna, which was affected by hardliner opposition.
Swift has not publicly supported any presidential candidate for the November elections and previously endorsed the Democratic Party in 2020. She also criticized Trump during his presidency, particularly amid nationwide protests after George Floyd’s murder by police officers. In a tweet from 2020, she remarked, “After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? We will vote you out in November.”
As of now, Swift has not responded to Trump’s recent social media activity. His posts are part of a broader trend of sharing AI-generated images, with Trump recently also depicting Vice President Kamala Harris speaking at a fictional communist rally at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. He has shared a deepfake video of himself dancing to the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive” alongside Elon Musk, who has endorsed Trump.
Additionally, Trump falsely claimed that a genuine photograph showing a large crowd at a campaign rally for Harris and her running mate Tim Walz was AI-generated, stating on his social media platform, Truth Social, “Has anyone noticed that Kamala CHEATED at the airport? There was nobody at the plane, and she ‘A.I.’d it, and showed a massive ‘crowd’ of so-called followers, BUT THEY DIDN’T EXIST!”
