Taylor Swift has not publicly endorsed any presidential candidate in the current election cycle, yet former President Donald Trump has claimed to accept her nonexistent endorsement. Trump announced his acceptance via a post on Truth Social, featuring a series of images that include some AI-generated content.
Among the manipulated images, one shows Swift styled as Uncle Sam with the slogan, “Taylor wants you to vote for Donald Trump.” Other photos feature Swift fans donned in “Swifties for Trump” apparel. A representative for Swift has not yet responded to requests for comment.
Trump shared a post that contains satire, which includes fake, AI-generated images referencing a thwarted terror attack aimed at Swift’s Vienna concerts, accompanied by the caption, “Swifties turning to Trump after ISIS foiled Taylor Swift concert.” The original account that published it confirmed the post was satirical.
An editor from Wisconsin Right Now clarified that she captured two of the non-AI images Trump shared at a Wisconsin rally in June. Jesse McBride stated that a woman in those photos, Jenna Piwowarczyk, is a real supporter. Piwowarczyk emphasized that there are conservative Swift fans who appreciate the “Swifties for Trump” movement, asserting that the media is neglecting to recognize their presence.
This election season has seen Swifties getting politically involved. Following President Joe Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris, a group of Swift fans organized under the name “Swifties for Kamala,” although it operates independently of the singer herself. This group has successfully mobilized fans to support Harris and other Democratic candidates, accumulating over 60,000 followers on social media.
While no official “Swifties for Trump” organization exists, many of Swift’s conservative fans have voiced support for Trump on their personal social media accounts. Trump’s campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, remarked that “Swifties for Trump” is a rapidly growing movement.
In the previous election cycle, Swift endorsed Biden and Harris, articulating her support for a president who recognizes the rights and safety of marginalized communities. During the 2020 vice presidential debate, she publicly expressed her support for Harris on social media.
Despite not officially endorsing Harris’s current presidential campaign, Swift has sparked speculation about her political leanings among fans. After a recent performance, some Swifties believed they spotted a visual nod to Harris during the show, although this was later clarified to be a background singer.
Swift, who initially refrained from political commentary early in her career, has become a notable advocate for Democratic candidates, LGBTQ rights, and women’s issues. In her documentary, “Miss Americana,” she expressed regret for not being politically outspoken earlier, mentioning her commitment to being on the “right side of history.”
During the 2020 election, Swift was vocal about her opposition to Trump, criticizing his presidency and declaring that voters would remove him from office. In response to Trump’s AI-based posts, a spokesperson for “Swifties for Kamala” reiterated the group’s values and commitment to supporting Harris, stating that they believe in fighting for rights and safety for all.
Despite Trump’s claims, he appears to acknowledge that Swift does not endorse him. In a new book, he mentioned, “I think she’s beautiful… I think she’s liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump.”
Following the book’s release, many left-leaning Swifties took to social media to urge Trump to stay away from the artist.
