HOUSTON – For many years, the vast body of water situated off the southern coast of the United States and Mexico has been known as the Gulf of Mexico. Recently, at a press conference, President-elect Donald Trump announced his intention to rename it to the Gulf of America.
Trump expressed concerns regarding the relationship with Mexico, citing issues like drug cartels and economic disparity. He suggested that since the U.S. engages heavily with Mexico, it would be fitting to change the name to reflect U.S. involvement: “We’re going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. Which has a beautiful ring that covers a lot of territory,” he stated.
