Amid ongoing national crises, former President Donald Trump took to social media Thursday morning to renew calls for the arrest of his predecessor, Barack Obama, while also targeting election workers in Georgia, with his commentary grounded in unproven allegations. This behavior reflects a persistent fixation by Trump on these figures, particularly during a period marked by significant backlash against the violence associated with his administration’s policies toward immigrants and citizens, including incidents in Minneapolis and other areas across the country.

In his posts, Trump highlighted a social media claim alleging that Obama attempted a “coup” in collaboration with “CIA agents,” aimed at undermining trust in American democracy and Trump’s supposed “LANDSLIDE VICTORY” in the 2016 election. Notably, Trump lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton by nearly three million ballots during that election.

Switching to the contentious 2020 presidential race, Trump shared another screenshot asserting, “TRUMP WON BIG. Crooked Election!” over a discussion about Georgia’s election results. Despite Trump’s insistence that he won the state—a claim that has circulated for over five years—he lost both the national election and Georgia itself. His efforts to alter the election outcomes were highlighted in a notorious 2021 phone call where he urged Georgia’s Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, to “find 11,780 votes” to overturn the results.

Adding to the tensions, the FBI recently executed a warrant in Fulton County, Georgia, to seize records related to the 2020 presidential election. Legal experts have described this action as a significant challenge to democratic norms. This incident occurred close to the Fulton County Jail, where Trump was processed and had his mugshot taken in 2023 following his indictment by District Attorney Fani Willis for charges tied to his attempts to overturn the election results in Georgia.

This cycle of accusations and actions reflects a turbulent political landscape in the United States, with Trump continuing to influence narratives around previous elections while facing ongoing legal challenges.
