President-elect Donald Trump announced on Friday that Karoline Leavitt will take on the role of White House press secretary. In a statement, Trump praised Leavitt, calling her “smart, tough, and a highly effective communicator,” expressing confidence in her ability to convey his administration’s message to the American people as they work to “Make America Great Again.”

Leavitt, who was the national press secretary for Trump’s campaign this election cycle, has also served as a spokesperson for the transition team since Election Day. She expressed her gratitude for the appointment, stating on X, “Thank you, President Trump, for believing in me. I am humbled and honored.”

Following Trump’s victory, Leavitt reflected on her experience, reminiscing about the hard work and dedication of the campaign team while celebrating the win. She emphasized the honor she felt while representing Trump and the campaign, claiming that the challenges faced were worth the ultimate success.

In addition to Leavitt’s appointment, Trump has also selected Steven Cheung to be the incoming director of communications, a position he previously held during the 2024 campaign.

Throughout her campaign tenure, Leavitt defended Trump’s rhetoric, mentioning in an NBC News NOW interview that his messages resonate with many who feel the country is headed in the wrong direction. She has also supported Trump’s criticisms of media outlets, labeling them as “fake news.”

Leavitt previously ran for Congress in New Hampshire in 2022 but was defeated by incumbent Democratic Representative Chris Pappas. She also served as an assistant press secretary during Trump’s first term.

This new appointment signals a focus on solid communication strategies within the upcoming administration, reinforcing Trump’s commitment to engaging with the public and addressing their concerns directly.

This move could usher in a new era of transparency and connection with the American public, showcasing a dedication to addressing the realities facing the country today.
