President-elect Trump has officially nominated Dr. Janette Nesheiwat to become the United States Surgeon General. In a statement released Friday evening, Trump hailed Dr. Nesheiwat as a “fierce advocate and strong communicator for preventative medicine and public health.”
Expressing pride in the nomination, Trump stated, “Dr. Janette Nesheiwat will be the Nation’s Doctor. She is a double board-certified Medical Doctor with an unwavering commitment to saving and treating thousands of American lives.”
Dr. Nesheiwat previously served as a medical contributor for Fox News and currently holds a position as the medical director at CityMD, a well-established network of urgent care centers in New York and New Jersey. She has also worked as a physician at Washington Regional Medical Center and Northwest Medical Hospital. During the pandemic, she notably worked on the front lines in New York City, treating numerous patients and contributing to efforts following the implementation of Operation Warp Speed, which aimed to expedite vaccine development.
Trump praised Dr. Nesheiwat’s leadership and expertise in disaster scenarios, citing her involvement during Hurricane Katrina and the Joplin tornadoes. Furthermore, he noted her service with Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Assistance Relief Team, where she provided essential care in crisis situations such as those in Morocco, Haiti, and Poland.
Dr. Nesheiwat is a graduate of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Inspired by her widowed immigrant mother’s resilience and compassion, she has dedicated her life to service and healthcare.
