Tru Fru Recall: Metal Contamination Risk in Freeze-Dried Strawberries

Tru Fru, LLC has initiated a voluntary recall of two of its popular freeze-dried strawberry products due to potential contamination with metal. The announcement was made on Monday and is in collaboration with their third-party manufacturer, Georgia Nut Company. The affected items are the Tru Fru Freeze Dried Strawberries covered in Dark & White Chocolate and the Tru Fru Freeze Dried Strawberries & Crème, as highlighted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The potential presence of metal poses serious health risks, including injury to the mouth, throat, stomach, and intestines, as well as damage to teeth and gums. The recall affects bags of frozen fruit that are available in various sizes: 3.4-ounce, 1.7-ounce, and 13-ounce. These products have been widely distributed across the country and can be found in major retailers such as Albertson’s, CVS, Food Lion, H-E-B, Hungryroot, Ingles Markets, Kroger, Stew Leonard’s, and Target.

Consumers can identify the recalled bags through their UPC codes and the first four digits or letters of the manufacturing code listed by the company. Importantly, no illnesses have been reported concerning the consumption of these products. Customers are advised to discard any possibly affected bags rather than consume them.

For any further inquiries or information, consumers can reach out to Tru Fru through email at trufru@rqa-inc.com or by calling (888) 293-7748. Those seeking reimbursement for their purchases can fill out a form available on the company’s designated website.

This recall follows a recent incident involving Hillshire Brands, which recalled 58 million pounds of their corn dogs and sausage-on-a-stick products due to reports of injuries caused by embedded wood splinters. Such incidents underscore the necessity of vigilance regarding food safety standards, and consumers are reminded to remain aware of any recalls to ensure their health and safety.
