MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – As Tropical Storm Debby nears South Carolina, Berkeley County Emergency Management officials are actively monitoring the storm and making preparations for its potential effects. The county is currently under a Tropical Storm Watch and a Storm Surge Warning. The Tropical Storm Watch indicates that conditions for a tropical storm, characterized by sustained winds between 39 and 73 mph, may occur within the next 48 hours. On Sunday, Governor Henry McMaster declared a State of Emergency in anticipation of the storm. Debby is projected to bring strong winds and significant rainfall to Berkeley County, with historic flooding expected during the week, particularly on Wednesday and Thursday. Updates regarding the storm can be found on the county’s official website.
