SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY, P.A. — During a press conference held in Falls Township, Governor Josh Shapiro confirmed that two Pennsylvania State Troopers were shot in Susquehanna County while responding to a call. He characterized the situation as “active” and stated he would be traveling to the area this afternoon to assess the situation.
The Pennsylvania State Police announced that the Troopers were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Their current conditions have not yet been disclosed, and further information regarding the suspect is expected to be released later.
Authorities are urging the public to stay clear of the incident zone on Route 171, which is located approximately five miles north of the town of Thompson.
Prior to this announcement, there had been a significant police presence in the area, prompting Route 171 to be closed from Churchill Lake Road to Bethel Hill Road. Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies, including Lanesboro police, Montrose Police, and the Susquehanna County Sheriff’s Office, have been actively involved in the response, alongside New York State Police who are providing assistance. A helicopter was also deployed during the incident.
This ongoing situation highlights the dangers law enforcement officials face while working to protect communities. Updates on the condition of the Troopers and the specifics of the incident will be shared as more information becomes available.
