Vincent Trocheck is bracing himself for a potential trade from the New York Rangers before the NHL Trade Deadline at 3 p.m. ET on Friday, though he has made it clear that he does not wish to be sent to a team on the West Coast. The 32-year-old center, under a seven-year, $39.375 million contract that he signed back in July 2022, has voiced his desire to move to a team with a chance to contend for the Stanley Cup.

With 38 points (12 goals, 26 assists) in 45 games this season, Trocheck has continued to demonstrate his value, notably contributing to Team USA’s success at the Olympic Winter Games in Milan-Cortina 2026. He has a 12-team no-trade list that includes several West Coast teams, and he confirmed that Rangers general manager Chris Drury has been open with him regarding the possibility of being traded.

Trocheck has had challenging conversations with his family, particularly with his children, as they prepare for the uncertainty that a trade might bring. “They hear a lot of stuff at school, so it’s just kind of managing their emotions about everything and trying to get them prepared,” he explained. He emphasized that while he has been through trades before and is not overly concerned for himself, his family’s wellbeing is his primary worry.

Despite the trade rumors, Rangers’ head coach Mike Sullivan stated after a recent skate that he had not been informed of any imminent trades regarding Trocheck. The Rangers currently find themselves in a difficult position, sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a record of 23-29-8.

Sullivan praised Trocheck, noting his impact on both ends of the ice. “He’s such an impactful player… Sometimes the business of the game is difficult, and this is part of it,” he remarked.

Trocheck expressed a clear desire to join a team poised for success, as he hopes to avoid being traded to a struggling team. “If I’m going to get traded and it’s to a team that’s in the same situation as us, then I don’t want to move. That sounds miserable in a new city,” he stated. He reiterated that family considerations weigh heavily in his decision-making regarding potential trades.

Anticipating the transition, Trocheck has been mentally preparing for the possibility of being traded since Drury’s announcement on January 16, when the GM indicated that the team would be retooling for a younger roster, suggesting that familiar faces may soon be departing the organization.
