An extreme heat warning is in effect for Southern Nevada this weekend as temperatures are expected to soar into the triple digits. The National Weather Service has issued the warning starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 30, extending until 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 31.

High temperatures will range from 103 to 109 degrees across various locations, with Death Valley expected to exceed 115 degrees. The Las Vegas area will have cooling stations available for residents and visitors seeking refuge from the oppressive heat.

As for today’s weather, Las Vegas can expect mostly sunny skies. Highs are predicted to approach 103 degrees, just shy of the airport’s record of 106 degrees set in 2002. In the east valley, including Henderson, temperatures might reach 104-105 degrees. Overall, daytime highs will be about 10 degrees above the seasonal average.

Air quality levels are currently rated from ‘good’ to ‘moderate,’ with moderate pollen levels primarily from trees like maple and sycamore. As the day progresses, ozone levels may rise to ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’ due to the heat.

Tonight’s forecast indicates partly cloudy skies, with overnight temperatures dropping into the upper 70s to low 80s. Winds will be from the southwest at around 10 mph.

Looking ahead, Saturday will see even higher temperatures around 104 degrees, potentially tying the record established in 2024. However, a shift in the weather pattern is anticipated on Sunday as a low-pressure system approaches. This system will draw moisture from Tropical Storm Alvin, bringing an increased chance of showers, especially in the mountains. As this weather system moves through, temperatures will cool down by 10-15 degrees, settling into the low 90s.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about weather updates and to take precautions amidst the heat, emphasizing the importance of safety during extreme weather conditions.
