DePrince made history as the youngest principal dancer at the Dance Theatre of Harlem before joining the Dutch National Ballet and later the Boston Ballet.

In addition to her dance career, DePrince was an accomplished author, writing her memoir “Taking Flight: From War Orphan to Star Ballerina” and the book “Ballet Dreams.” She was also a dedicated humanitarian, advocating for children affected by conflict and violence, and serving as an Ambassador for War Child Holland. DePrince hosted the “Dare to Dream” gala to promote the mental health and well-being of children in war-torn areas.

The sports brand Nike also paid tribute to her on social media, honoring her as an inspiring athlete who encouraged others to chase their dreams despite any challenges. They remembered her as a cherished member of the Nike family and vowed that her story would continue to resonate through her writings and advocacy for underprivileged youth.
