Renowned musician Yuan Weiren, also known as “Little Fat Teacher,” has passed away at the age of 57, a tragic event that has drawn significant attention from the public. Yuan’s health had been deteriorating since an unfortunate fall in 2020, marking a gradual decline that began with a diagnosis of a brain tumor following a fall in Shanghai in 2018. After receiving treatment, he returned to his hometown in Taitung for recovery.

In 2020, Yuan experienced another severe fall at home, which left him in a critical state with a low level of consciousness. Despite showing some improvement over time, his health continued to decline. By 2022, he was declared in a persistent vegetative state, requiring full-time care from family members.

Yuan’s sister shared her profound sadness and longing for her brother, who had spent years bedridden. In late November 2025, he was hospitalized due to fever, and although updates were limited, his friends noted that he was under observation. On February 2, 2026, his sister Yuan Aizhen confirmed his passing, sharing that he had departed quietly and freely. Plans are underway to return him to Taipei, where he will be laid to rest alongside their father.

Yuan Weiren’s legacy as a talented musician and beloved figure will be remembered fondly by his fans and the entertainment community alike. His journey through illness and the love of his family offer a poignant reminder of the importance of support and compassion during difficult times.
