Trescothick Weighs in on Duckett’s Banter and Deep’s Celebrations at The Oval

England’s assistant coach Marcus Trescothick shared his thoughts on the light-hearted exchange between Ben Duckett and Indian pacer Akash Deep during the second day of the fifth Test at The Oval. Trescothick advised that when a batsman gets out, it’s generally best to keep a low profile and walk off the field quietly, suggesting that the manner in which Akash Deep celebrated may have been unnecessary.

During the early session, Duckett had aimed to rattle Akash, remarking, “You cannot get me out in here.” In response, he executed a spectacular reverse ramp shot that thrilled the English spectators. However, Duckett was ultimately dismissed for 43 runs, caught behind by wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel, following a delivery from Akash Deep, who celebrated the wicket with enthusiasm, a gesture that Trescothick found unusual but entertaining.

Trescothick also touched on the injury of Chris Woakes, England’s ace seamer, who was ruled out of the Test due to a shoulder injury. Emphasizing the tradition of Test cricket, he reiterated that existing rules regarding substitutes and gameplay adjustments have been effective and that any changes aren’t warranted at this time.

As the match progressed, Trescothick remarked on its evenly poised nature, predicting continued seam movement on a lively pitch as England and India battled for dominance. After two days of play, India finished with a score of 75/2, holding a 52-run lead over England, following strong performances from their bowlers and a solid half-century from Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Current scores reflect England at 247 in their first innings versus India’s 224, with the match grippingly set up for further competition as the teams look to capitalize on their respective advantages. With exciting cricket expected in the coming days, fans remain hopeful for a thrilling finish.
